My Alien Story :)

Once there was an alien.
And they decided to travel around the world in 80 days.
So they where decideing on how they where going to get there.
They dident just want to take there space ship they wanted to do soemthing a little more interesting.
So they where thinking about it and they came up with a plane.
They where going to take a plane.
So they came to the airport and there was NO aliens aloud on the plane.
So they had to find something else to do.
They decided that they where going to take a hot air ballon.
Then they went to the place where you rent air ballons.
But they where all taken so they had to try and take one away from someone.
So they spotted a person getting on to a hot air ballon.
Then they where making up another plan. But they had to think quick because they where about to leave.
So theey grabed the hot air ballon away from them and they started to fly away.
Everything was fine untill they got to there stop.
They walked out of the air ballon and then all theses people started chasing after them because they where tracking them for the hot airballon. So they got back into there UFO and then they went back home.

So I told then what proportion mean "That proportion is a relationship that says two ratios, or two rates are equivalent ans that it can be explained as a fraction or ratio table" And so after i told them that I gave them 3 questions.

Vicky and I were walking home from school when suddenly we saw this bright light fly over our heads and heard a loud crash. Suddenly, smoke appeared and the door came down. We heard high pitched voices. Vicky got scared and ranaway. I never really believed in aliens untill I saw it in real life! I was hiding behind a fence. I moved closer and hid behind a trashcan. The aliens looked! and started walking towards the trashcan. I grabbed a rock so I could hit the alien then I stood up and the Aliens screamed! so I threw the rock at it! and backed away. The Aliens just stood there.. shocked.. after a few seconds, they blinked. then they started to reach for their back pocket! I got ready to throw another rock! then they suddenly held out a piece of paper with letters on them. I noticed it was written in English! Who knew aliens understood english! and I also noticed that it was math! they wanted to know what proportion meant. so I told them that Propotion is a relationship that two ratios or two rates are equal and can be solved in fractions or a ratio table. They wanted help on 3 questions so I helped them.

To solve this, use the information that was already given so to get to 3 using 18 divide by 6 so what you do to one side you do to the other , and to get to 9 from 18 divide by 2

At an amusement park, a new thrill ride was introduced. It costs $7.50 for 3 rides on the wild slider.

To figure the unit rate you have yo make the # of rides 1 so divide by 3 and what you do to one side you do to the other.

$ = 7.50 = 45

To do this, since you know the unit rate you multiply that by 18 and you do the same to the other side and you get your answer.

Today an alien landed on earth, me and my friend saw it snooping around and telling its home planet something. I said to my friend "Tell the government, I'll stall it."
I had to think fast, the alien looked pretty dumb so I thought about using something I learned today... proportions! That could slow him down. I walked up to the alien and started to talk about proportions.

- A proportion is a relationship thats says to rates or ratios are equal. A proportion can be expressed as a fraction.

As I was doing my proportion homework I heard a huge sound coming from my yard. I looked outside looking on what it was. It was a UFO. I flash of light came down and an alien appeared. I went outside asking what the alien wanted. The alien said " I'm going to take over your so called planet earth until, you tell me what proportion means and giving me 3 equations to know how to use it. " So, after he said that I said " Oh, well that's easy a proportion is a relationship that two rates or ratios are equal." Then I told him 3 equations.

3. a) Write a proportion based on the following scenario:
Three balls cost $1.25. What is the cost of 12 balls?
b) Solve the proportion.

11. A small gear turns 18 times in the same time that a large gear turns 4 times. How many times will the large gear turn if the small gear turns 54 times? Draw a diagram to help set up a proportion and solve the problem.

14. Last night 30 cm of snow fell in 6h. If it continues snowing at the same rate, how long will it take for 45 cm of snow to fall?


After I told him what proportion means the alien said " Congratulations you just saved your planet earth." So he went under the UFO and a flash of light came out and the alien was gone. They went to the other part of the earth and asked someone else. But then, the person didn't know and so we all died cause the aliens took over.

And I offered to teach it to them. I told them that proportion is a relationship that says two ratios, or two rates are equivalent. I also explained to them that proportions can be also solved as fractions or on a ratio table. Proportions could also be expressed as a unit rate. So after I explained to them, to make sure they understood , I gave them 3 questions.

A UFO was flying above my house. I went outside to check it out. The UFO landed right in my yard. A little martian stepped out, I asked him what he was doing here. He didn't say anything, he threatened me that he'd take over the world with aliens and later on unicorns if I won't give him at least 3 proportion problems. He also demanded me to teach him what proportion was. So I taught him that: proportion is a relationship that two ratios or two rates are equal. It can be solved in two ways; chart form and fraction form. Here were the problems I answered for him.

- It would eat 0.33kg.

28. The dosage of a certain medicine for a child is 2.5ml for each 3kg of the child. What is the dose, in mL for a child with a mass of 16.5kg.

- 13.75 ml for a child with a mass of 16.5 kg.

One day I was just sitting down, then i heard a sonic boom coming from just outside my house, so i checked it out, i saw a UFO crashed in my backyard.
Three little small green people came out looking confused. so i went closer and closer to them until they saw me. since it seemed like they had no idea what to do, i decided to teach them
about proportions, like, Proportion is a relationship that says that two ratios or two rates are equivalent, and proportion can also be expressed as fractions and there are two different ways to find proportion, using a unit rate or a proportion. So the aliens were so happy. Then i gave them 3 examples that they can solve together.

wow he did it right he took the information from the question then put them in a ratio table. he put the 3 under the P and the 7 under the MIN then times them by 2 and got 6 from 3 and 14 from 7.

The pattern is that the numerator goes up by 1 and the denominator goes up by 2's

The first problem is to determine the missing value.

Wow! It looks like he got them all right. Then I guess he knows how to find the missing value by dividing and times the numbers to get the answers.

A few days later, another spaceship came down on Earth. It was his family. I guess I have to give her back where he belongs. I hope that he wont forget what I taught him about proportion and I hope that he will remember me and come visit me soon. I waved good bye to him and his family and wish them a good luck on their rip back.

Operation "Stop the Slimy Aliens."

I was about to go to bed on a peaceful night when I heard a loud "thud!" that sounded like it came from far away. Then paparazzis were throwing rocks on my bedroom window. "We need your help! The aliens are here to kill us all unless you teach them about proportions!", they said. "I knew one day would come in where you would need my brains," I replied.

To explain what proportion is to the aliens, I used 3 questions.

First of all, a proportion is a relationship that says that two ratios or two rates are equal. It can be solved in two ways; chart form and fraction form.

1) Six chairs are always placed with every two tables at McNeill higschool. Supposing a room has 72 chairs, how many tables does it have?

Proportion problems always (or usually) has 3 important facts/numbers given. In this case, they are written un purple. Let's solve this problem using the Tchart.

As you see all I did was to set up a chart, labeling each side "chairs" and "tables". I put the numbers (6, 2 and 72) in the column where they belong. In order to know what the missing spot is, we have to figure out how 6 became 72. In this case, it was multipled by 12. The simple rule we follow is that whatever we do to one side, we do to the other. Therefore we multiply 2 with 12 as well. We get 24.

The room has 24 tables.

2) If two pencils costs $1.50, how many pencils can you buy with $9.00?

As you see, I set up the two columns again. Except this time I labelled them differently, according to the given facts from the question. I put the numbers (1.50, 2, and 9.00) in the columns where they belong. To find the missing value. we have to figure out how 1.50 became 9. Then we follow "the rule" which I stated in the first question. We multiply 2 by 6 to get 12.

You can buy 12 pencils with $9.00.

3) Sally has to make rectangle boxes. The proportion of it's length and width had to be the same. A big box has a length of 21 m. and a width of 14 m. A small box has to have a width of 6 m. What will it's length be?

We will now solve this problem in fraction form.

All i did was to set up all 3 given numbers in fraction form, labelling them as length and width. To find the missing value, we have to figure out how 14 meters became 6 meters, as shown in the diagram. Then we we the same for the other side. So if 14 meters was divided by 2.333, then we divide 21 meters by 2.333 as well. And we get 9 meters.

The length of the small box should be 9 meters.

a) Three dinner rolls cost 99¢.

For 1 dinner roll it would be about 33 cents.

b) Seven identical objects have a mass of 14 kg.

For the mass of 0.5 objects it will be about 1kg.

Aliens: AAAHHHH… no!

Abby: HA. I’ll try number 16 page 68.

Make a fraction table, at the left side put a 60 km over the line and put 3 hrs under the line.at right side put 120 km over the line and put 6 hrs under the line.which makes 60 x 2=120 and 3 x 2=6.120km for 6 hrs............................................................................................................................. B. Make a fraction table, at the left side put $3 over the line and put 4 cans under the line. at the right side put $15 over the line and put 20 cans under the line.which makes 3 x 5=15 and 4 x 5=20.$15 for 20 cans.............................................................................................................................. C. Make a fraction table, at the left side put 178 beats over the line and put 2 mins. under the line. at the right side put 89 beats over the line and put 1 min. under the line.which makes 178/2=89 and 2/2=1................................................................................................................................. D. Make a fraction table, at the left side put 48km over the line and put $16. under the line. at the right side put 192km over the line and put $64. under the line.which makes 48 x 4=192 and 16 x 4=64.

Second Problem.

a) Make a ratio table, to get the unit rate you need to find three things. $7.50, 3 rides, 1 ride.

Divide 7.50 to 3 to get the cost of how much per ride.

b) After you find the unit rate. Multiply the unit rite to find how much 18 rides cost.

Third Problem.

A) Make a ratio table to find how much 6kg of pickerel cost. Multiply the price of 2kg in to 3 so 17.60 x 3 = 52.8.

B) Make another ratio table, and turn 2kg into 2000g and divide it into 20.

To get 1600g get 100g and multiply it to 16.

Set up a proportion for each situation.


a) If 10 beans have a mass of 17 g, then 30 beans have a mass of 51 g.


I got the answer by finding out 10 times 3 is 30 and got the proportion.











b) There are 13 boys for 15 girls in every classroom at Albany Middle School. If there are 65 boys in the school, then there are 75 girls.

I got the answer by getting 13 time 65 to get 5 to get the proportion.







c) On a map, 1 cm represents 25 km. Kendra wants to ride her bike 160 km. This distance is 6.4 cm on the map.

I got the answer by finding out 1 times 6.4 equals 6.4 and getting the proportion.







Page 67 question 11:
A small gear turns 18 times in the same time that a large gear turns 4 times. How many times will the large gear turn if the small gear turns 54 times? Draw a diagram to help set up a proportion and solve the problem.





I got the answer by dividing 18 by 54 to get 0.333... so i times 4 by 0.333.... and got 12.









Page 68 Question 13. Two quarters have the same value as ten nickels. What is the value of five quarters in nickels?





I got the answer by finding out the relation with 2 and 5 was 2.5 so I times 10 by 2.5 to get 25.










Alien Story:
One day a guy who was obsessed with math was visited one day by an alien. The alien said that he would destroy earth. Right at that moment the man ran away from the alien and came back 5 hours later. He said he had just done everything he wanted to do in life and was ready to die. Then the alien just gave him a weird look and said he just wasted his time doing that. The alien said he wasn't finished talking and continued. He said that if could help him with his math homework he'll leave earth alone. He only had 3 questions left to do. He looked at the alien and said your an idiot this is 8th grade math. The alien knocked him out and the man woke up an hour later. The alien said that if he had to wait any longer he would blow the place up already. So the man said okay i'll do your homework. The alien handed over his notebook. The man saw the 3 questions and answered them. Then the alien said thanks and I won't blow up the earth. Then he waved goodbye to him and disappeared.
