Christine's 2 Minutes to make a Difference Final Reflection

Google Docs

Version 1

Version 2 Final Cut

2) The changes we made between Version 1 and Version 2 is we made the font better, we added the things we took for granted between here and Africa, made the voices clearer and blended it with the music, we also made the interview with an expert pictures bigger and clearer and version 2 is longer than version 1.
The students were very helpful. They found mistakes that we didn't see and added suggestions on how we can make version 2 better.

3) It was Kim who found an expert when she was looking through a website. I learned a lot of things from the expert. like...
- Many Africans had experienced having low self-esteem or discrimination.
- People who live in poverty can not live to their fullest potential.
- How we can reduce poverty.
The expert gave us lots of ideas on what poverty has done and what we could do to reduce the growth of poverty.

5) Our greatest success in our 2 Minutes would probably be having it finished.. because we spent a lot of time getting distracted. The skills i would want to use in the future is movie editing.

7) I was frustrated about my partners getting distracted and beginning to talk off-topic. We just had to keep focused on finishing the project on time.

8) 2 Minutes to Make a Difference is important for us grade 8s because we're starting to have awareness about the things happening around the world.

9) I will donate money in stores that helps poverty and trying not to be wasteful about the things I have.

Christines scribepost February 19, 2010

Today, we worked on our foldables. We had to put it in 5.1 Views of Three-Dimensional objects.

We also had answer Communicate the Ideas in our foldables.

1. Raina insists that you need to tell her all six views so she can draw your objects. Is she correct? Explain why or why not.
-- No, because if you have the top, bottom, and sides, she wouldn't even draw 6 views.

2. Are these views correct? Justify your answer.
-- No.

Christine's Scribepost for Jan. 6

a² + b² = c²
25² + 30² = c²
(25x25)+(30x30) = c²
625 + 900 = c²
1525 = c²
√1525 = √c²
39.1 = c²

Shahriar was right, it wasnt as large as the ad said.

Christine's Pay it Forward

Pay it Forward means an act of kindness you would like to do for either a person you know or a stranger.

Part 2
Me, Vicky, Caitlin, Kim, Abby and Razel decided to donate goody bags, stuff stuffed animals and books to the Children's Hospital .
We chose to donate at the hospital because we knew that some of the kids might not recieve a gift.
We helped the hospital and made the sick kids happy (:
We bought goody bags to donate to the hospital . Inside, there was led pencils, erasers, chocolates, bubbles, bouncy balls and candy canes. We also added Christmas Cards. Razel, Kim and Abby donated some stuff toys, books and keychains.
We did it on Monday.

Part 3
It went Great. Mr. McLean drove us to Children's Hospital during the lunch hour. When we got there, we didnt know what to do. We were all shy to ask the nurse lady. So we just waited until she asked us. When she finally saw us, we told her we were donating goody bags, toys and books to children's hospital for a project.
The lady called the children life department but she couldn't reach them so she told us to leave the packages at the table and write them a note. She also said that they were going to send us a letter back or call the school to thank us.
After we finished the note, we gave it to the Nurse lady and thanked us for donating stuff. Then, we went outside.
I felt a little nervous because I thought the Nurse lady might not accept it.
The nurse lady was surprised and thankful.
We didn't get to say to the Nurse lady to Pay it Forward because she was busy and she immediately led us to Child Life Department.

Part 4
The idea of Pay It Forward is important because it could make a person have a smile on their face so they would want to do it to others too. 1 person can make a difference.
I don't know if our act of kindness made a difference . I hope it did.

Watch our video! x)

How I stopped an Alien Invasion using Proportion

Vicky and I were walking home from school when suddenly we saw this bright light fly over our heads and heard a loud crash. Suddenly, smoke appeared and the door came down. We heard high pitched voices. Vicky got scared and ranaway. I never really believed in aliens untill I saw it in real life! I was hiding behind a fence. I moved closer and hid behind a trashcan. The aliens looked! and started walking towards the trashcan. I grabbed a rock so I could hit the alien then I stood up and the Aliens screamed! so I threw the rock at it! and backed away. The Aliens just stood there.. shocked.. after a few seconds, they blinked. then they started to reach for their back pocket! I got ready to throw another rock! then they suddenly held out a piece of paper with letters on them. I noticed it was written in English! Who knew aliens understood english! and I also noticed that it was math! they wanted to know what proportion meant. so I told them that Propotion is a relationship that two ratios or two rates are equal and can be solved in fractions or a ratio table. They wanted help on 3 questions so I helped them.

5. determine the unit rate.

a) two pens cost 94 cents.

b) Four blocks stacked one top of the other are 24 cm

6. Delia was paid $35 for 5h of babysitting. How much would she receive for 3h. Use a unit rate to find the answer.

7. Solve #6 using a Proportion.

PS: sorry if I posted this up late (:

Christine's Scribepost for Oct. 12

Our Homework for the weekend was to pick 2 questions from the slides. The questions must be one purple and one red or blue. You must explain the questions using math.

1. If you share $100 with 10 people, how much does everyone get?
If you share $100 with 10 people, each one would get $10. Because 100÷10 is 10. Since there are 10 people, they each get $10.

2. What is the total of all coins in Canadian Currency?
$100 USD would be $75 CND because the difference between the US Dollars and Canadian Dollars is CND is $25 lower than USD. Sometimes the differences between them changes because of the rate.

Christine's BOB post

Three things about Graphing:

1. There are many types of graphs like Bar Graphs, Double Bar Graphs, Pi Graphs, Line Graph, Double line graphs, and Pictograph
2. Circle Graphs are best for comparing categories to the whole using percents. The sum of the percents in a circle is 100%
3. Bar graphs are best for comparing data across categories.

What I could've done to improve my mark:
I should've put my conclusion and the sums . I also forgot to label the X and Y axis.
I got a low mark )'=

Christine's Four 4s Assignment

Both of these mean the same thing but they look different because the first one looks like a fraction And the second one has a division symbol. You can write divide as 4/4 or 4÷4 which means the same thing so you're going to get the same answer.
You get it??

(sorry if my answer is small or doesnt make sense)
