Kisha's scribepost for Jan 6

c²-b²=a²
80cm² -79cm²=a²
(80x80)-(79x79)=a²
6400cm-6241cm=a²
159cm=a²
√159=√a²
12.6cm=a
Allen's scribepost for January 6, 2010
A) a² + b² = c²
5² + 12² = c²
(5x5) + (12x12) = c²
25 + 144 = c²
169 = c²
√169 = √c²
13 = c
B) c² - b² = a²
15² - 9² = a²
(15x15) - (9x9) = a²
225 - 81 = a²
144 = a²
√144 = √a²
12 = a

12.The Hypotenuse of the triangle cuts the circle in half.What is the diameter of the circle?Express answer to nearest tenth of a centimeter
A²+B²=C²
7²+5²=C²
(7x7)+(5x5)=C²
49+25=C²
Square root of 74=C²
8.6=C²
8.6=Diameter
The diameter of the circle is 8.6 cm

In order to find the base of this triangle, add up both high numbers, then take away lowest one, for my answer, I got 12mm.
10+10-8=12
The length of the base of the large triangle is 12mm.

Answer:
First you have to find the side length of the square..( 30.23). So the hypotenuse is 30.23 and the one leg is 17 cm, now I have to find the other side.
c²-a²= b²
30.23² - 17² = b²
(30.23x30.23)-(17x17)= b²
913.85-289=b²
624.85=b²
624.85=b²
√624.85=√b²
24.99cm= b
P= a+b+c
=17+24.99+30.23
= 72.22 cm
The perimeter of the triangle is 72.2

16cm=256cm
144 cm² + 256 cm² = 400 cm²
Square of 400 cm² = 20 cm
b)16 m = 256 m²
30 m = 900 m²
256 m² + 900 m² = 1156 m²
Square of 1156 m² = 34 m

a)7 cm = 49 cm²
6 cm = 36 cm²
49 cm² + 36 cm² = 85 cm²
Square of 85 cm² = 9.2 cm
b)11 cm = 121 cm²
8 cm = 64 cm²
121 cm² + 64 cm² = 185 cm²
Square of 185 cm² = 13.6 cm
I know it's late but, I still did it. Anyways, COMMENT. (:

6. Determine the length of the leg for each right triangle.
a) a= 7cm b=? c=25cm
c (2) - a (2) = b (2)
25 (2)- 7(2)= b (2)
(25x25) - (7x7) = b (2)
625- 49= b (2)
576= b (2)
(square root) 576= (square root) b (2)
24= b
b) r= 10cm s= ? t= 26cm
t (2) - s (2) = r (2)
26 (2) - 24 (2) =r (2)
(26x26) - (24x24) = r (2)
676- 576= r (2)
100= r (2)
(suare root) 100 = (square root) r (2)
10= r
sorry i cant upload the pic.

Alex's Question #13
The flower bed is not a right triangle, because the Pythagorean relationship says that a2+b2=c2 but 4800 cm2 + 4800 cm2 = 9600 cm2 not 9800 cm2.

This is my scribe for December 14th,2009
I had to do question #14
The question gave me 5 triangles triangle A, B, C, D, E and it gave there side lengths all i had to do is show if it is a right triangle.
Triangle (A) the side lengths are 9,12,15.
answer: 9 squared = 81, 12 squared=144 and 81+144 equals 15 squared which is 244 so it is a right triangle.
Triangle (B) the side lengths are 7,8,11.
answer: 7 squared = 49, 8 squared=64 and 49+64 does not equal 11 squared which is 121 so it not a right triangle.
Triangle (C) the side lengths are 7,24,25.
answer: 7 squared = 49, 24 squared=576 and 49+576 equals 25 squared which is 625 so it is a right triangle.
Triangle (D) the side lengths are 16,30,34.
answer: 16 squared = 256, 30 squared=900 and 256+900 does equal 34 squared which is 1156 so it is a right triangle.
Triangle (E) the side lengths are 10,11,14.
answer: 10 squared = 100, 11 squared=121 and 100+121 does not equal 14 squared which is 196 so it is not a right triangle.
Thanks For Reading!
Raquel's cool question #9
a)4x4=16
3x3=9
2x2=4
b) No, because the areas of the legs don't equal the area of the hypotenuse. ( 9+4=12 not 16. )
