2 Minutes to Make a Difference Final Reflection

1.

2. The comments of the students were very helpful in making my final cut better.
I changed some of the font and image color so it would show up better and some spelling changes.

4. I found my expert by using Google and searching anti-racists and found a Canadian anti-racist council. Unfortunately he couldn't respond before I made my final cut.

6. My greatest success would probably be making everything by my self, with some help.
I will probably using the movie making skills I have acquired and the the ways to make a difference in the future.

7. The most frustrating thing was cutting the sound clip to just the right spot, I didn't really use a strategy I just kept trying until I got it right.

8. Honestly I would think its important because of how much it influences our grade, because honestly not many people besides us would see the video and unless someone really important sees them it wouldn't really be able to make a big difference.

9. I will try and make a difference by not making stereo-typical comments and stop people who do. Also I will try and make people aware of how it would feel if they were in others places and how much they would suffer though not by being racist to them.

Alex's Pay it Forward

What is 'Pay it Forward'?
Pay it forward is where we do/show a random act of kindness to a person or people. Paying it forward is supposed to make the world a better place, because when you help someone and ask them to pay it forward and they do the same thing as you more and more people get helped.

What Was Your Pay it Forward Act of Kindness?

My Pay it forward was sending supplies to children in Kandahar.

Why Did You Chose This Activity?

I decided to do this when I met one of my moms friends, She would often go to Kandahar to either work at a Tim Hortens at the base or volunteer at a hospital. The reason I chose to do this was because I know how good of a life we have here is and how bad life for a kid in Kandahar.

What Did You Do?

My mother and I made some goodie bags that had pencils, stickers, candy canes, chocolate, puzzles, playdoh, cards and some books.
There were some books and puzzles in there for the adults as well as the children.

When Did You Do Your Act of Kindness?
December 11, my mother went to the post office while I was at school.

How Did Your Act of Kindness Go?
It went great, it wasn't that hard and it was enjoyable to do, knowing that I was helping somebody.

How Did it Feel and How Did The People React?
Well it felt great helping out someone, however I don't know how they reacted because they're about half way around the world.

Did You Ask Them to Pay it Forward?
No, because I didn't want it to feel as if I did it reluctantly and I didn't want to burden them with a task extremely hard to do when your in a war zone.

How Did They React to Your Request?
I don't know how they reacted for 2 reasons, 1 they're about half way around the world, and 2 I didn't ask them.

Why is The Idea of Pay it Forward so Important?
It's important because it teaches us that one person can make a difference.

Why is Pay it Forward Important?
It's important because it makes the world a better place.

Alex's Question #13

The flower bed is not a right triangle, because the Pythagorean relationship says that a2+b2=c2 but 4800 cm2 + 4800 cm2 = 9600 cm2 not 9800 cm2.

Winnipeg Harvest

What is Winnipeg Harvest?

Winnipeg harvest is a place where a lot of the food that goes to homeless shelters like Shalom mission comes from. There are Winnipeg harvest buildings all around Winnipeg, they ship food to food banks and other places. Anyone can get food from a food bank, all you have to do is make an appointment so they no how much the place needs.

What we did There?

Brayden, Jem, Camille and I put food into plastic bags, while Harbeck put 7 of them into a large rice bag, in the bags there was rice/pasta, proteins such as beans or canned fish, canned soup, and canned vegetables. Now it's not as easy as it sounds because we had to take some boxes, either 1(grains), 2(protein), 3(vegetables), and 4 (soup), those boxes when full weighed about 15-20 pounds I guess and we could go through those boxes really fast.

Why is Winnipeg Harvest so Important?

Winnipeg harvest feeds over 40,000 people a month that's about the same amount of people in Brandon, or 40 of our schools. There are a lot of people there that sacrifice their own time to help others, I think about 100 people work there everyday. Winnipeg harvest has been around for about 25 years and has been constantly increasing the amount of people they been helping, hopefully they will continue helping for years to come

It was really fun being at Winnipeg harvest and I learned some interesting things. Everyone there was very helpful and when we were making the food bags some people came to help us, like Camille said there was a person named Nick and 2 other people, i don't know the other peoples names because they didn't have name tags. Also when we managed to finish all the boxes of one category we got a break all of (except Harbeck) had hot chocolate thought Camille took long drinking hers saying it was hot. There was supposed to be some pictures but there aren't any.

Thank you Harbeck for taking us there I had an enjoyable experience. It would be great to go there again. If you want to learn anything more go to

Alexander's Post for November 16

What we did on November 16 was learn about prime factorization we had numbers like 164, 196, 150, and 225.

We also learned how to identify perfect squares. The prime numbers in a perfect square repeat themselves and can be divided evenly.

That is what we did that day, if I'm missing anything please tell me because that's all I can remember.

How I Stopped an Alien Invasion Using Proportion

Today an alien landed on earth, me and my friend saw it snooping around and telling its home planet something. I said to my friend "Tell the government, I'll stall it."
I had to think fast, the alien looked pretty dumb so I thought about using something I learned today... proportions! That could slow him down. I walked up to the alien and started to talk about proportions.

- A proportion is a relationship thats says to rates or ratios are equal. A proportion can be expressed as a fraction.
60 sit-ups divide3 20 sit-ups 1 x5 5
__ = __
________ = ________ 2 x5 10

3 min divide3 1min

The alien just looked at me like I was crazy, but I talking.

Page 67

4.A) Three Dinner rolls cost 99c. 99c/3rolls = 33c/1roll

B) Seven identical objects have a mass of 14 kg. 7objects/14kg = 1object/2kg

Page 68

13. Two quarters have the same value of ten nickels. What is the value of five quarters in nickels?
2Q/10n = 5Q/25n

Page 69

27. If A:B = 4:5, find the ratio of 5a:7b. 5a:7b = 20:35.

Uh-oh I was running out of stuff to say, luckily my friend came back with the government. Now the alien is safely locked up in area 53.1.

Alex's Rate Growing Post

Part 1
-Rate
A rate is a comparison of 2 quantities measured in different units. Ex. 100km/hr

-Ratio
A ratio is a comparison of 2 quantities measured in the same unit. 1 blue marble: 2 red marbles

The difference between rate and ratio is the rate compares different things and a ratio compares thing that are the same.

Page 60

4. Determine the unit rate in each situation

A)An orca swims 110 km in 2 h. 55km/h

B)A Canada goose flies 800 km in 12.5 h. 64km/hr

C)Cathy plants 45 daffodils in 30 min. 1.5 daffodils/min

Page 61
10. Trevor rode his mountain bike 84 km in 3 h. Jillian rode 70 km in 2.5 h. Who is the faster cyclist? How do you know? Both people rode at the same speed, because 84 divided by 3 is 28 and 70 divided by 2.5 is 28.

Part 2

Today we had to figure out how much ingredients for 10 people and how many for 1 people.

All you need to do is multiply the ingredients by 2.5.
You could also divided the ingredients to get enough for 1 person then multiply by 10.

Alexander's Post for Question 16

Question #16

Heather used a copier to ma
ke the following 50% reduction.

a) Write the ratio of the length A'B' compared to the length of AB.

The ratio of the length of A'B' compared to the length of AB is 1:2

b)Write the ratio of the length of A'C' compared to the length of AC

The ratio is also 1:2

c)Use your knowledge of ratio and percent to explain the meaning of a 50% reduction.

A 50% reduction is where something is reduced by 50%, that means it will be cut in half. Example if 100 would be reduced by 50% it would become 50

Yes I know it's late but I can't get to my text book so I had to use alternative sources.

Alexander's BOB Ratio

Part To Part Ratios:
Blue to Green- 9:2
Orange to Green- 7:2
Blue Vowels To Blue Constants - 5:4

Part to Total Ratios:
Blue to Total -9:18
Orange to Total-7:18

Three Part Ratio
Blue to Orange to Green - 9:7:2

Ratio Notation, Fraction, Decimal, and Percent
Punctuation to Constants
P/C- 1/8, 0.125:1, 12.5%:100%

Equivalent Ratios
Equivalent Ratios are ratios that equal the same. E.g. 10:2 and 5:1 are equivalent.
To make equivalent ratios you can divide or multiply, but always do what you do to one side to the other.

Questions
1) What would be a part to part to whole ratio?
2)Show Orange to green or 7:2 ratio notation, fraction, decimal and percent
3)Make an equivalent ratio of blue to green, or 9:2

PART 2

1 mistake I made was in reading the question and figuring out the ratio order. Like in the question where it asked what was the vote of girls to guys, I put it in the order of guys to girls. For future test I will remember to read over my questions.

1 question I got wrong was the picture frame question. I put 11cm instead of 12.6cm.

Alexander's Coin Math

If you share the $ with 10 people how much does everyone get?
Everyone would get $10 each because 100/10 = 10.

How much is the jar with in Canadian Currency?
The jar would still be $100 because only the dollar is a different price all the coins except for the 1 dollar coin and 2 dollar coin are the same amount. If I use penny from Canada in America it would still be worth 1 cent not 0.82 or something cents.

What is the total of the money in the jar?
The total amount of money in the jar is $100.

PART TWO

How much of the jar is filled with Canadian coins?
The jar is filled 35.5% by the Canadian coins because the amount of coins the jar could hold is 1040 and 1% of 1040 is 10.4, and 10% of 1040 is 104, so 30% is 312, if I add 1%, I would get 322.4 coins and 31% if I repeat what I did 2 more times I would get 343.2 coins and 33%, again I would repeat what I did twice so I would get 364 coins and 35% now if I got half of 1% it would be 5.2 coins and 0.5% if I add that to what I have now it would be 369.2 and 35.5%. I know that it's not 370 but it would take a lot of decimal percent so I just rounded it off.

Could you fill the jar with $ 100 American and $ 100 Canadian? Why?
No you couldn't because American coins take up 75% of the jar and Canadian coins take up 35.5% of the jar. 75%+35.5%=110.5% and that is more than 100%.

3 Things I know About Graphing

-The numbers on the y-axis (intervals) must remain constant unless you put a break in the y-axis which could either be a lightning bolt or a space in the line which looks like =, that is the only way the intervals should be different, but that only works for the first interval every thing else needs to be the same. Example, the first interval is 0-2 and there is a break in between that, after that it goes 2-3, 3-4 etc.

-There are 6 types of graphs a line graph, a double line graph , a bar graph, a double bar graph, a circle graph, and a pictograph.

-When your graphing there should always be a title, and labels on the y-axis and x-axis.

What I Could of Improved on the Assessment

I could have colored the graph. Also I could have made better sentences.
