Kisha's 2 Minutes to Make a Difference Final Reflection

1. Google Documents Slide Show

Version 1

Final Cut

2. The students comments were very helpful. They pointed out mistakes that we never noticed and fixed them right away. We've tooken out some pictures, added the interviewer, fixed some grammar, added how we could make a difference, and put the credits at the end of the video.

3. We looked up on google, and searched for poverty experts. We emailed all the ones we could find, and barely any of them answered in time, thats why we added it in the second video. Fortunately she replied back to our email a day before the final cut was due, and we got to get lots of information. We asked her how we could help, she said we could donate to charities, raise awareness and tell others about poverty, volunteer at local poverty organizations and we could ask our mom and dad to only buy fair trade food products. We learned from our expert that there are many different kind of ways we could make a difference.

6. I think that our greastest success in our project is the information that we put into our video. We got lots of important points, and we've learned from it that poverty is a serious situation. We used Windows Movie Maker to make our project, I think that i'll use that in the future because its very easy to use, and its really fun.

7.What frustrated me the was that we couldn't find an expert in time. When the first video was due, I wasn't sure if we could get it into our project. I've been emailing people for weeks and weeks, but everyone was so busy, and most of them didn't reply at all. I thought we would never find an expert. Then i asked Mr.Harbeck if we could put it into our second video, he said he would just add on the marks after he saw the second video. I wasn't sure if we'd even find one, but at the last second someone emailed us back and replied with lots of information.

8. I think that this project is very important to us because we need to learn how and why we should make a difference. If everyone participated in making all these changes to the issues in the world, they would all be fixed. I think we did this project to raise awareness about all the issues, and show how we should make a difference.

9. When my closet is getting too full, I will take the time to sort out which ones I want, don't fit, or some that I don't wear. Then I will keep the ones that I usually wear and put the others I don't need into a big bag. I could also do this with some other objects I don't need. After that, all i'll have to do is call someone to pick it up, or drive to a local charity organization and give away all the things I don't need to the poor. That way i'm helping others, rather than throwing useful stuff into the garbage.

Kisha's growing post

I'll upload my video as soon as i get my memory card back.

part 1:

part 2:

part 3

What we're trying to find out is how many sets of 3 could fit into 1 1/2
So first you have to make the denominators the same by finding the lowest common denominator. So you have to change the 1/2 into fourths. Then you count how many 3's could fit into 1 1/2. The answer is 2.

For this one now we're trying to find out how many sets of 2 can fit into 3/4. So again you have to change the 1/2 to fourths. Then you count. How many sets? Only 1 set of 2 can fit. But there's 1 left over and a spot that's empty. So that would make it 1/2 left over. So putting it together the answer will be 1 1/2 can fit into 3/4.

Kisha's percent scribe

This looks confusing, but its simple. Divide 35 by 10. Divide 100 by 10. Then multiply 3.50 by 2, and multiply 10 by 2. Then subtract 35 by 7.50, which equals $28.00. Then subtract 100 by 20, and that equals 80%

The percent is out of 100. And GSP is 5% and PST is 6%. So 5%+6%=11% So adding the taxes to the total. 100%+11%=111%

Each full grid represents 100 percent.

Kisha, Raquel, Krystal, and Elissa's pay it forward

Part 1

What is pay it forward?

Pay it forward is a random act of kindness you do for three people. If someone is kind to you instead of paying it back, you pay it forward to three people. Then those three people pay it forward to another three people, and hopefully it spreads all over the world.

Part 2

What was your pay it forward act of kindness?

Raquel, Krystal, Elissa and I handed out christmas cards and candy to people.

Why did you choose this activity?

We chose this activity because we thought it was the best way to spread the word about pay it forward, and explain to people how important it is.

What did you do?

Raquel, Krystal, Elissa, and me bought 70 christmas cards and wrote inside of each one, saying what pay it forward was, and asking them if they could please pay it forward. Then we went out onto my street and put some of the cards in mailboxes and on car windshields. After that we went to polo park and handed some out to the costumers and workers there.

When did you do this random act of kindness?

On sunday we bought and wrote on the cards, then on monday after school we handed them out.

Part 3

How did your random act of kindness go?

It went very well, and the people and workers were very thankful

What happened?

The people asked us why we were doing this, and we told them its an assignment from sargent park school, and its a random act of kindness.

How do you feel?

When we first started doing it , we felt nervous and scared what people would say, and if they didn't accept the card. But afterwards we started feeling really proud of our selfs because of what we did, and how happy we made people.

How did the people react?

As it shows in the video, they were really really thankful and we made them really happy.

Did you ask the people to pay it forward?

Yes we did, and we even wrote it on the card.

How did they react to your request?

They said that they will for sure pay it forward, and they thanked us.

Part 4

Why is the idea of pay it forward important?

Because if one person does something for 3 people , and those three people do it for another three people it could spread all over the world.

Has your act of kindness made a difference?

Yes, I think it has because we handed out about 70 cards saying to pay it forward, and whats 70 multiplied by three? 73 x 3= 210. So if all those 70 people did something kind for 3 people each , then 210 people will know about pay it forward and they will pay it forward too.

Scribepost for November.30

Today to start off the class we had a simple quiz about Squares.

After that we started to work on our foldables.

We made a number line looking like the picture above on our yellow piece of paper , after that we talked to our parnters and tried to figured out different patterns that we saw showing on the number lines.
Patterns: The numbers between the perfect squares increase by 2

For homework you need to fill in what the next two numbers are.

How I Stopped an Alien Invasion Using Proportion

Before I never believed in aliens. I always thought it was a huge lie. Until I saw this bright light coming from outside my window one day. As i looked out I saw a huge UFO had just landed onto my street. Everyone was scared and freaked out. But I was very amazed and interested. So as I got closer everyone screamed at me to get away from that thing, but I wanted to see the aliens. Then the big door came down, and the aliens came out. They started speaking some kind of language to eachother that I couldn't understand. Then one of them came up to me and told me they were taking over planet earth. I asked what could I do to make them change their mind. They explained to me that their homework from school is due tomorrow, and they didn't know what proportion was. And I offered to teach it to them. I told them that proportion is a relationship that says two ratios, or two rates are equivalent. I also explained to them that proportions can be also solved as fractions or on a ratio table. Proportions could also be expressed as a unit rate. So after I explained to them, to make sure they understood , I gave them 3 questions.

4. Determine the unit rate

a) Three dinner rolls cost 99 cents

- 33cents/roll

b) Seven identical objects have the mass of 14kg.

- 2kg/object

11. A small gear turns 18 times at the same time that large gear turns 4 times. How many times will the large gear turn if the small gears turns 54 times? Draw a diagram to set up a proportion and solve the problem.

19. Determine the missing values for each

equivalent fractions.

Kisha's BOB ratio post

Part to part

-yellow to white (2:1)
-blue to green (4:2)
-brown to orange (3:2)

Part to total ratio

-white to total (1:22)
-orange to total (3:22)

Three part ratio

-grey to yellow to white (1:2:1)
-green to blue to brown (2:4:3)

Ratio notation, fraction, decimal, and percent

-yellow to blue (2:4, 2/4, 0.5, 50%)

Equivalent ratios

-yellow to blue (2:4)
-2:4 is equivalent to 4:8, 5:10, 6:12, etc.
You can find equivalent ratios by multiplying or dividing both sides by the same number. It is similar to finding equivalent fractions.

Questions
What is a part to whole ratio?
How do you make a 3 part ratio?
What is an equivalent fraction for 2:3?

Kisha's coin math October, 14th

PART 1

Would the jar weigh the same if there was $100 Canadian coins?

No, because Canadian coins have loonies and toonies, and American coins don't. So with the loonies and toonies in the jar, that would probably most likely add on more weight because they are bigger than quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies.

If you were able to seperate the coins into groups. Which group would have the most coins or highest value?

First I would seperate the coins into groups like, quarters, nickles, dimes, and pennies. I think that the pennies would have more coins because it has less value and doesnt take up as much space and I think that the quarters have the most value because the value of the quarter is more than the rest of the coins in the jar.

American Coins

Canadian Coins

PART 2
How much off the jar is filled with Canadian coins?
With American coins the jar is almost filled up to the top. To me that looks like about 75% or 3/4 of the jar filled. So with Canadian money it would be around 35% or 1/4 of the jar filled. I'm not sure, i'm just guessing, its an estimate.
Could you fill the jar with $100 American and $100 Canadian coins? Why?
No, I think that the coins were over flow or spill over. Because from the question above, by adding the information together - 75% + 35% = 110% That would mean that the jar would over flow because of that 10%. So you can't fill Canadian coins and American coins all in that one jar.
Sorry its so late, but at least I did it ):

3 things i learned about graphing are:

1. Every graph must have titles and labels.

2. Graphing is a diagram that shows differences in data.

3.There are many different graphs made for different uses.

Circle Graph

Bar Graph

Line Graph

I need to improve on how to explain why a graph is misleading, and how to make a graph misleading.

Four 4's Assignment

They both look like very different equations, but they are both the same. The first one is a fraction, and the second one has division symbols. But they both are using four 4's and they both equal 2. The first one has a fraction symbol, that looks like this - and it has a four on top and below it, the bottom number is called the denominator. The top number is called the numerator. If both numbers are the same , that must mean that the fraction equals to a whole. 1 whole plus 1 whole = 2 wholes. The second one has division signs. 4 is being divided by 4. Whenever a number is being divided by itself it could only equal 1, and 1 + 1
would give you the answer of two.
By the way, sorry I always do mine late. I always forget its for homework.

Question 16:

An icecream store developed this following graph to advertise its icecream.

a) What icecream store do you believe developed this graph? Explain.
-I think that "Cool Flavours" developed this graph because it wouldn't make much sence to advertise your own company and show it with less of the money.
b) How is this graph misleading?
-This graph is misleading because the pictures are different sizes, the cool flavours icecream is too much bigger than the other picture even though it only has $2 million more than the other.
SORRY ITS LATE!
