Allen's 2 minutes to make a difference FINAL REFLECTION

  1. Please embed your Google Doc, Version 1 and Final cut of your movie.
  2. Please reflect and talk about the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie. Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?
  3. How did you find your expert? List 3 important points your expert added to your movie. What did you learn from your expert?
  4. How did you find your expert?
  5. If you did not find an expert tell us why you were unsuccessful. Be honest.
  6. What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project. What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?
  7. What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?
  8. Why is the 2 Minutes project important to Grade 8 Students?
  9. How will you make a difference in the future?
  10. label your post 2minutes2010, reflection
1. Google Docs

First Draft

Final Cut

2. The students comments were really helpful. They pointed out some mistakes or we need something like voice's on our video or maybe a expert. We put voice's on our final cut and made the text inside the pictures instead of being on the other slides.

3. n/a ( expert didn't reply to our e-mail)

4. n/a

5. We were unsuccesful to get an expert because we tried to e-mail like 2 expert on climate change but they didn't reply on any of our e-mails.

6. Probably my great success on 2 minutes is we finish our video. I will take the skills of making a movie.

7. The thing the frustrated me was the windows movie maker we use, we can't put our voice's on it without taking out the music.

8. 2 minutes to make a difference is important to us Grade 8 students because we see what happening to the world and try and help somehow.

9. I will try and recycle or help on a charity, or like the movie Pay it Forward when i kid helps 3 person and those person help 3 more person and so on.

Percent Scribe for January 26, 2010

5. a) 2/5% of 325 = 1.3
2/5% = 0.4%
First find 1% of 325. Do that by dividing 325 to 100 and you will get 3.25, then divide it again by 10 to get 0.1% (0.325) multiply 0.325 by 4. The answer is 1.3

b) 15 1/4% of 950 = 144.88
Find 10% of 950, 950÷ 10 = 95 (10%), divided it into half so 95 ÷ 2 = 47.5 (5%), 95 + 47.5 = 142.5.
950 ÷ 100 = 9.5 (1%) ÷ 4 = 2.375 (1/4%)
142.5 + 2.375 = 144.88

c) 175% of $125.50 = 219.63
100% is 125.50 ÷ 2 to get 50%.
125.50 ÷ 2 = 62.75 (50%) divide it into 2to get 25%
62.75 ÷ 2 = 31.375(25%)
125.50 + 62.75 + 31.375 = 219.63

6. a) 5/8 of 520 = 3.25
5/8 = (0.625)
520 ÷ 100 = 5.2 (1%) ÷ 2 = 2.6 (0.5%) ÷ 2 = 1.3 (0.25%) ÷ 2 = 0.65(0.125)
2.6 + 0.65 = 3.25

b) 75 2/5% of 200 = 150.8
divide 200 by 4 to get 25%! 200 ÷ 4 = 50(multiply 50 by 3) 50 x 3 = 150 (75%)
divide 200 by 100 to get 1%! 200 ÷ 100 = 2(1%) (divide by 10) 2 ÷10 = 0.2 (0.1) multiply by 4 to get 2/5%. 0.2 x 4 = 0.8
150 + 0.8 = 150.8

c) 250% of $76.50 = 191.25
Multiply 76.5 by 2. 76.5 x 2 = 153(200%)
divide 76.5 by 2. 76.5 ÷2 = 38.25

Darnell Richard Allen Pay it Forward

Darnell Richard Allen PAY IT FORWARD!

Part 1
What is "Pay it Forward"?
Pay it forward is a random act of kindness given to random people. Like giving a lollipop to a little girl for example.

Part 2
Why did you choose this activity?
Me Richard, and Allen decided to pass out small coloured candy canes around the school. Richard bought the $4 worth of candy canes from super store. We all pitched in atleast $1 to make the deal fair.

What did you do?
The 3 of us passed out candy canes through out the school. Our first customer were little grade 3 kids from Ms.Nickels class. The kids kept grabbing and eventually, the bag ripped with a big hole. So Richard put the candy canes in his jackets pocket since his pockets are big. Then we handed out the rest of the candy canes around the hallway and outside the school. We also went into Allen's apartment to handout. We knocked on doors and gave out candy canes. It was a kindness to show that we have our "Christmas" spirit!

When did you do your act of kindness?
We did our act of kindness Wednesday December 9, 2009 at lunch time.

Part 3
How did your act of kindness go?
It was actually really fun handing out the candy canes. We had our laughs and smiles as we handed it out and it was really enjoying, except when the little grade 3's started ripping up the bag. That was really funny!

How did it feel and how did the people react?
It felt really nice to give out something nice to the people. The people were pleased that they had candy canes, in our honor of our kind of our "Christmas" spirit.

Did you ask them to pay it forward?
Yes we did actually. As we passed it out to the adults outside and inside the buildings we asked them.

Part 4
Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" so important?
So we can change the world in a short time so the world can be a better place and people around the world.

Why is "Pay it Forward" important?
So we can change the world into a better place then what it is now, so the world expects something from some one.

Sorry that we dont have any pictures. They were deleted on Allen's camera unfortunately :(

Pay it forward!

Part 1
What is pay it forward?

Pay it forward is a random act of kindness you do for three people. If someone is kind to you instead of paying it back, you pay it forward to three people. Then those three people pay it forward to another three people, and hopefully it spreads all over the world.

Part 2
What was your pay it forward act of kindness?
- My pay it forward is to help my mom with my brother and sister

Why did you choose this activity?
- I choose it because i had to do it anyways

Who did you help?
- My Parents

What did you do?
- Babysat my brother and sister

When did you do you act of kindness?
- Everyday when my my parents is still at work

Part 3
How did your act of kindness go?
- I thought it went pretty well...

What happened?
My parents were very happy they didn't have to pay and were happy to do a random act of kindness of someone else

How did you feel?
- I felt pretty good because instead of paying someone else to babysit my brother and sister, I babysat for free

How did the person or people react?
-They were pretty surprise at first.

Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?
- Yes

How did they react to your request?
- When I told them I would do it for free they were a bit confused but after I explained it they liked the idea.

Part 4
Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?
- Because on the movie, if one person does a random act of kindness they do it to 3 other people and so on.....

Has your act of kindness made a difference?
-No, because our act of kindness is kind the small to make a difference.(if my parents pay it forward it might make a difference)

How I stopped an Alien Invasion using Proportion

First Problem.

A. Make a fraction table, at the left side put a 60 km over the line and put 3 hrs under the line.at right side put 120 km over the line and put 6 hrs under the line.which makes 60 x 2=120 and 3 x 2=6.120km for 6 hrs............................................................................................................................. B. Make a fraction table, at the left side put $3 over the line and put 4 cans under the line. at the right side put $15 over the line and put 20 cans under the line.which makes 3 x 5=15 and 4 x 5=20.$15 for 20 cans.............................................................................................................................. C. Make a fraction table, at the left side put 178 beats over the line and put 2 mins. under the line. at the right side put 89 beats over the line and put 1 min. under the line.which makes 178/2=89 and 2/2=1................................................................................................................................. D. Make a fraction table, at the left side put 48km over the line and put $16. under the line. at the right side put 192km over the line and put $64. under the line.which makes 48 x 4=192 and 16 x 4=64.

Second Problem.

a) Make a ratio table, to get the unit rate you need to find three things. $7.50, 3 rides, 1 ride.

Divide 7.50 to 3 to get the cost of how much per ride.

b) After you find the unit rate. Multiply the unit rite to find how much 18 rides cost.

Third Problem.

A) Make a ratio table to find how much 6kg of pickerel cost. Multiply the price of 2kg in to 3 so 17.60 x 3 = 52.8.

B) Make another ratio table, and turn 2kg into 2000g and divide it into 20.
To get 1600g get 100g and multiply it to 16.

The Aliens are taking over......

An alien has landed on earth from another planet. He is a scout for his planet. After a few minutes
a some kind of creature come out on a UFO. It want to know what is a proportion is or it will take offer the the earth. A proportion is a relationship that say that two ratios or two rates are equal. Proportion can be written in to fraction form. There is 2 different ways to show proportion
1 is using a ratio table and the other 1 is using fraction.

Allen's BOB Ratio

Part to par t ratios:
blue to orange - 9 : 6
vowels to consinents - 7 : 8
A to E -3 : 2

Part to total ratios:
blue to total - 9 : 16
consinents to total - 8 : 15

Three part ratio:
blue to green to orange - 9 : 1 : 6

Ratio notation, fraction, decimal, and percent

vowels to consinents - 7 : 8
v/c - 7/8 = 0.875 = 87.5%

Equivelent ratios.
You can make equivalent fractions by multiplying or dividing the ratio. But you always have to remember to always do what you did to one side you always have to do to the other

Questions.
1) Show A to E or 3 : 2 in ration notation, fraction, decimal, and percent.
2) Explain what is a equivelent ratios?
3) Make an equivalent ratio of 7 : 8?

Please remember to answer the questions on your comments.

What i need to work on.

red/total = 26/52
red/total = 2 / 4 = (1/2)
My mistake is by not putting the ratio in lowest term.
On the future test will put the ratios in lowest term even if it doesn's say to simply.

total = 30 students
3+15+6 = 24
30-24 = 6 votes for Karen
My mistake is by not following the order of word ratio.
On future test ill reread the test to make sure the i follow the word ratio order.

My mistake was not understanding the question.
On future tes i will try my best to understand a question.

3 things i know about graphing.

- You can mess with the graph by putting a break on y-axis, distort the size of bars, or make a a bar or picture by changing its size or colour.

- When your gonna do a double line or bar graph you need 2 piece's of data.

- Line graph uis best for showing the data over time, circle graph is best for doing the %.
