Square Roots

The square root of a number can be thought of a side length of a square 16 square root =4 , the side length is 4cm.

The square root if a value is a number that when multiplied by itself equals a value.
5x6= 36 , 50 sqaurd 36= 6

In the prime factorization of a perfect square, there is an even number of each prime factor .
36= 2x2x3x3

Square Roots - side measure of a square . The number I can square to get the area of a square .

• The square of a number is the number multiplied by itslef .
  

5 x 5 = 25 or 5 square = 25

• The square of a whole number is a perfect square . 2 square = 4

so , 4 is a perfect square .

• The square of a number can be thought of as the area of a square .

4 square = 16
The area is 16 cm square

• The square root of a number can be thought of as the side length of a square .
  

√16 = 4
The side length is 4 cm .

• The square root of a value is a number that when by itself equals the value
  

6 x 6 = 36 , so √36 = 6

• In the prime factorization of a perfect square , there is an even number of each prime factor.

36 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 (two factors of 2 , two factors of 3 )

Today in math class we had a quiz on estimating square roots. The Question was....

WITHOUT a calculator estimate the square root of 67. Use a number line to show all of your work.

After that we , corrected some of the pages in our homework book. Then we took a piece of looseleaf and folded it in half then, ripped it in the middle. On 1 side we put Perfect Square Chart. So we made a chart just like this one.

P.S sorry if the writing is too small.

Remember to do your homework on page 99, numbers 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,19,21

AND* use a number line for questions 4,5,7 and 9.

a)9
-The square is 81. Because you multiply it by itself.9 squared or 9x9=81

-The square is 121. Because you multiply it by itself.11 squared or 11x11=121

17)A fridge magnet has an area of 54mm squared. Is 54 a perfect square? Use prime factorization to find the answer?
