Hey guys,
My name is Shelby Mackey. I'm currently in my first year at the University of Regina taking secondary education. I'm a major in math and a minor in english. I'm taking a class called ECMP 355 and so I've been assigned to work with you in your class as a mentorship.
A little about myself, I'm 18 years old born and raised in Moose Jaw, SK. My family consists of me, my mom and dad, and my little brother who is in grade ten right now. I also have a chocolate labrador named Jake, and a cat named Bailey. I love sports, I've played all my life. My favourites are soccer and basketball, and I like playing tennis, football, badminton, and many others.

Vicky's Graphing Assessment

GRAPH A (Accurate)







Graph A is the normal bar graph. This graph shows that the sums 5, 6, and 9 all were rolled the same amount of times. And 11 was only rolled once.










GRAPH B (Distorted)


Conclusion Graph B:


To distort the accurate graph I made the grey bar (the bar representing the sum 11) fatter. I did this so it looks like 1 is kinda bigger and noticable. (Sorry that I couldn't do anything else like make a break or make the intervals different).

Graph B: Distorted



































Conclusion: The Graph A is more accurate than Graph B because Graph B is distorted by distorting the y- axis and by messing with the colors. When you look at Graph B number 4 and 5 looks like there's a big difference even if it's not really that big.

Maths on the other side of the world



Hi Year 8s

It's Mr Montgomery here. I'm that maths teacher that commented in your blogs a few days back.

Mr Harbeck has allowed me (and my students) to post up on your blog. Mr Harbeck and I are thinking that his students (you) and my students can create a more real audience for your work by sharing blogs.

I've put some snapshots of my students of my students at work. We don't have ready access to computers in the class room yet. However we do try to do interesting stuff that sometimes means sitting down at desks, sometimes using the whiteboard space and sometimes working outside.

My students are on their spring break at the moment. They will come back to school on Tuesday 13th October. After that we'll try and be in regular touch with you.

Of course you know how busy school life can be. So no promise. But we will see what we can work out.

Graph A is a normal graph showing the data.With that graph it looks like theyre all pretty much the same differences and none of them are too big.


Graph B is a graph that is misrepresented.It makes it look like Graph 8 is up by a lot but its actually just up by a little.


Im not really sure what to do so sorry if I did it wrong.

a)Explain how this graph is misleading.
The graph is misleading because the intrevals on the Y axis go from 0-500 and the highest number in the graph is 200.

b)Based on the graph,what can you conclude about the outcome of the voting?
What i can conclude about the graph is Candidate B barely won because he didnt reach near 500.

c)Does the data support the claim made by the title? If not, reword it to correct the misinformation.
The title didn't match the graph because it says, "Vote is a three-way split" and the 3 canadidates votes weren't divided evenly. The title should be renamed Vote results for ______.

An icecream store developed this following graph to advertise its icecream.


a) What icecream store do you believe developed this graph? Explain.
-I think that "Cool Flavours" developed this graph because it wouldn't make much sence to advertise your own company and show it with less of the money.
b) How is this graph misleading?
-This graph is misleading because the pictures are different sizes, the cool flavours icecream is too much bigger than the other picture even though it only has $2 million more than the other.
