Part #1

Ratio- Compares 2 quantities that are measured in the same units.

Rate-Compares 2 quantities that are measured in different units.

What is the difference?
The difference between rate and ratio is that ratio is measured in the same
units and rate is measured in different units.

Gina- $13.00/h

Asad- $13.75/h

Asad has a greater hourly rate of pay than Gina.

Trevor- 28 km/h

Jillian-28 km/h

They both have the same rate.

I know it because I used a ratio table to
know the answer.

PART #2

1) I multiply each of the ingredients by 2.5.

2) I divided the ingredients by 10 to get one

Alex's Rate Growing Post

Part 1
-Rate
A rate is a comparison of 2 quantities measured in different units. Ex. 100km/hr

-Ratio
A ratio is a comparison of 2 quantities measured in the same unit. 1 blue marble: 2 red marbles

The difference between rate and ratio is the rate compares different things and a ratio compares thing that are the same.

Page 60

4. Determine the unit rate in each situation

A)An orca swims 110 km in 2 h. 55km/h

B)A Canada goose flies 800 km in 12.5 h. 64km/hr

C)Cathy plants 45 daffodils in 30 min. 1.5 daffodils/min

Page 61
10. Trevor rode his mountain bike 84 km in 3 h. Jillian rode 70 km in 2.5 h. Who is the faster cyclist? How do you know? Both people rode at the same speed, because 84 divided by 3 is 28 and 70 divided by 2.5 is 28.

Part 2

Today we had to figure out how much ingredients for 10 people and how many for 1 people.

All you need to do is multiply the ingredients by 2.5.
You could also divided the ingredients to get enough for 1 person then multiply by 10.

Part #1
  • Rate
- A rate is a comparison of 2 quantities measured in different units.

  • Ratio
- A ratio is a comparison of 2 quantities measured in the same units.

The difference between a ratio and a rate is that a rate " compares 2 quantities measured in different units" and a ratio " compares 2 quantities measured in the same units" .

Page #60

4. Determine the unit rate in each situation.
a) An orca swims 110 km in 2 h.
- 55km/hr
b) A Canada goose flies 800 km in 12.5 h.
-64km/hr
c) Cathy plants 45 daffodils in 30 min.

-1.5 daffodils/ minute

Page#61

10. Trevor rode his mountain bike 84 km in
3 h. Jillian rode 70 km in 2.5 h. Who is
the faster cyclist? How do you know?

- They are both equal. How do i know that ? I'am sure of it because i used a ratio table. With a ratio table i found how many kilometers each rode for an hour. They both came up to 2.5. At that time i had to know and follow that whatever i do to one side i do to the other.

Part #2

- My Recipe would look different because you'd have to make additions to the amounts that are put in the recipe to an equivalent amount from the first one but serving 10 people. So in order to do that i used a ratio table to find out how much of each ingredient was serving to one person, which would be dividing by 4. Once solved i then multiply the answer i come up with to 10 for then people.

- For one person you basically do the same thing, the only difference is that once you come up with the answer from dividing from 4 , you stay it because that would be your answer.

Ratio compares quatities measured in the same units.
Rate compares two amounts measured in different units.

The difference between ratio and rate is that ratio is the comparison between two numbers with the same unit. For example 3 oranges to two oranges. On the other hand, a rate is an indication of the measurements of different units per unit. For example, the statement 3 oranges/ person shows the relationship between the measurement of oranges per person.

question 16

Gina earns $78.00 for working 6 hours. Asad makes $192.50 for working 14 hours. Determine each person's unit rate of pay. Who has a greater hourly rate of pay?
Asad has a greater hourly rate of pay than Gina.

Part 2:

The recipe above for spaghetti serves four people.

1) What would the recipe look like if it had to serve 10 people?

I would multiply the measurement of ingredients by 2.5 because 10 is 2.5 more than 4.

For example: 1/2 lb groundbeef

1/2 multiplied by 2.5 is 1.25. Therefore the ingredient for 10 people will be 1.25 lb of groundbeef.

2) What would the recipe look like if you only had to serve 1 person?

We know that the recipe serves 4 people. So to serve one person, divide the quantities by four.

For example: 14 oz can of tomatoes chopped.

14 divided by 4 is 3.5. So the recipe for this ingredient will be 3.5 oz can of tomatoes chopped.

Sorry. I know it's so late!

Ratio: Compares 2 quantities that are measured in the same units.

Rate: Compares 2 quantities that are measured in different units.

What is difference between ratio and rate?

- the difference between ratio and rate is... ratio compares things in the same units and rate compares thing in a different units.

Question.
a) 55km/hr
- 110 ÷ 2= 55 /2 ÷ 2h = 1

b) 64km/hr
- 800 ÷ 12.5 = 64 / 12.5 ÷ 12.5 = 1

c) 1.5 daffodils/ 1min
- 45 ÷ 30 = 1.5 / 30 ÷ 30 = 1

They are going an equal amount of speed. 28km/hr

Trevor.
km/h
84/3 (÷3)
28/1

Jillian.
km/h
70/2.5 (÷2.5)
28/1

Part 2:

What would the recipe look like if it had to serve 10 people ? Show your calculations.- 10/4 = 2.5

ground beef - 0.5 x 2.5 = 1.25 lb
medium onion, diced - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5
stalk celery finely diced - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5
clove garlic, minced - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5
canned tomatoes, chopped - 14 x 2.5 = 35 oz
can tomato paste - 0.5 x 2.5 = 1.25
tsp parsley - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5
tsp basil - 1.5 x 2.5 = 3.75
tsp oregano - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5
tsp sugar - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5
tsp Worcestershire Sauce - 0.5 x 2.5 = 1.25
tsp seasoning salt - 0.5 x 2.5 = 1.25
bay leaf - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5

2) What would the recipe look like if you had to only serve 1 person ? Show your calculations .- 10÷1 = 10

ground beef - 1.25 ÷ 10 = 0.125 lb
medium onion, diced - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25
stalk celery finely diced - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25
clove garlic, minced - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25
canned tomatoes, chopped - 35 ÷ 10 = 3.5 oz
can tomato paste - 1.25 ÷ 10 = 0.125
tsp parsley - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25
tsp basil - 3.75 ÷ 10 = 0.375
tsp oregano - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25
tsp sugar - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25
tsp Worcestershire Sauce - 1.25 ÷ 10 = 0.125
tsp seasoning salt - 1.25 ÷ 10 = 0.125
bay leaf - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25

Trevor and Jillian rode the same speed which was 28km/hr.(I think that's what i got)

[ How I got my answer was i made another Ratio table, then divided 3 by 3 then did it to the othere side which was 84. Then my answer was 28 for Trevor, I did the same routine to Jillian.]
