Darnell's 2 Minutes to Make a Difference Final Reflection

Final Cut


Please reflect and talk about the changes you made between the first and final cut of your movie. Were the student comments helpful in making your final cut better?
- Several changes has happened from version 1 to the final cut. We had to add the voice in the background so the video doesn't look boring. I actually had to lower the volume of the background music so people could actually hear our voices. We have deleted several repeated pictures in headings, and also added the credits and bibliography. The student comments were helpful in a big way. During the making of the final cut, we actually looked at the comments on our version 1 and took the time to make the changes.

How did you find your expert? List 3 important points your expert added to your movie. What did you learn from your expert?
- We have found several experts through family members and the internet. But the problem is that, the experts that we had connection with, didn't want to give us information on animal testing. The reason was because the information is confidential.
We have 1 important point we have added that our experts have told us is..
- The information is confidential and can't be shared.
We couldn't get more information except for that 1 important heading from each expert we contacted.

What was your greatest success in the 2 minutes project. What skills will you take away with you and use in the future?
- Our greatest success in the 2 minutes project is actually finishing the projects. Lots of hard work has been put in the project and i believe it turned out pretty great.
- The skills i would take away with me and use in the future would be my video editing. I've just started using a new program on video program and i think it turned out well in the final cut.

What frustrated you during the movie making process? What strategies did you use to become successful?
- What frustrated me during the movie making process was actually rendering the video. Lots of problems happened for example, when i play the video. The strategies i have used to become successful we're just focusing on finishing and putting lots of effort into the project.

Why is the 2 Minutes project important to Grade 8 Students?
- I think the 2 minutes project is important to grade 8 students is because we need to get in touch with the community and the changes its been having.

How will you make a difference in the future?
- How will I make a difference in the future? Nobody actually knows. There are a lot of problems happening around us and we all need to pitch in to help out.

Problems & Percents

Problems & Percents

We will use example 4: Determine a Percent
This example uses PROPORTIONS in this problem.
To solve this problem we will do part a.
a)What percent is the current speed of the original speed?
For this we will use proportions to help us.
We need to find the CURRENT speed over the ORIGINAL speed.

Now we need to find the original speed and current speed.
The current speed is at 50 km/year.
The original speed was at 10 km/year.





Now you can see here the current speed is 50 km over 10 km (Current Speed over Original Speed)
Now we need to find what percent of the current speed is over the original speed.
10 km is 100%
How do you get from 10 km to 50 km?
10 x 5 = 50 km
So we do the same thing we do to the percent.
100% x 5 = 500%

Here is the answer to a.
The current speed is 500% over the
original speed.




Now we will do b.
In this question we're finding how much the pole drifts in 1 year around the earths circumference in percent form.
We know that the pole drifts 50 km / year.
The Earths circumference is 40 000 km.
We will also be using proportion for this.
We need to find the poles km over the earths circumference.
So it will be 50 km over 40 000 km.
Now we will need to simplify this into lowest terms.
The answer we get is 1 / 800
Now we can find the percent by dividing 1 by 800.
1/800 = 0.00125
To get the percent we need to multiply the decimal by 100.
0.00125 x 100 = 0.125%.

So the answer is that at 50km / year the pole drifts 0.125% or 1/8% of the Earths circumference in 1 year.

Darnell Richard Allen Pay it Forward

Darnell Richard Allen PAY IT FORWARD!

Part 1
What is "Pay it Forward"?
Pay it forward is a random act of kindness given to random people. Like giving a lollipop to a little girl for example.

Part 2
Why did you choose this activity?
Me Richard, and Allen decided to pass out small coloured candy canes around the school. Richard bought the $4 worth of candy canes from super store. We all pitched in atleast $1 to make the deal fair.

What did you do?
The 3 of us passed out candy canes through out the school. Our first customer were little grade 3 kids from Ms.Nickels class. The kids kept grabbing and eventually, the bag ripped with a big hole. So Richard put the candy canes in his jackets pocket since his pockets are big. Then we handed out the rest of the candy canes around the hallway and outside the school. We also went into Allen's apartment to handout. We knocked on doors and gave out candy canes. It was a kindness to show that we have our "Christmas" spirit!

When did you do your act of kindness?
We did our act of kindness Wednesday December 9, 2009 at lunch time.

Part 3
How did your act of kindness go?
It was actually really fun handing out the candy canes. We had our laughs and smiles as we handed it out and it was really enjoying, except when the little grade 3's started ripping up the bag. That was really funny!

How did it feel and how did the people react?
It felt really nice to give out something nice to the people. The people were pleased that they had candy canes, in our honor of our kind of our "Christmas" spirit.

Did you ask them to pay it forward?
Yes we did actually. As we passed it out to the adults outside and inside the buildings we asked them.

Part 4
Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" so important?
So we can change the world in a short time so the world can be a better place and people around the world.

Why is "Pay it Forward" important?
So we can change the world into a better place then what it is now, so the world expects something from some one.

What are factors?:
A factor is a whole number which divides evenly into a whole number leaving no remainders. A whole number is a number without decimals in it like 2.50

What are prime numbers?: A prime number is a whole number greater than 1 that has only 2 factors: 1 & itself. 1 is not a prime number. Some examples are prime factors are 2,3,5,7,11,13.

What are prime factors?: Prime factors are factors that are prime numbers. In my words, its putting a whole number into its lowest prime numbers also known as Prime Factorization. A way to use this method is to use a Factor Tree. Lets use an example like the number 12. Find factors of 12 and put it into the lowest prime numbers you get. Here is an example of a factor tree for 12.

How i stopped an alien using proportion

Aliens came on earth and decided to visit Winnipeg, Manitoba. A weird looking green thing knocked on my door. I opened the door and i saw a weird blob with a sign saying BLOBLBLOBOGIKS. I googled it and it meant, if i didnt show my skills on proportions, it would invade the earth and kill everyone. So i showed how i could do proportions.


4.Determine the unit rate.


A) 3 Dinner Rolls cost 99 cents. 1 Dinner Roll = 33 cents. = 33 cents/1 dinner roll.


B)7 objects/14g = 2g = 1 object/2g




13.Two quarters are the same value as ten nickels. What is the value of five quarters in nickels?


Quarter= 25 cents. Nickel=5 cents.


25 x 5 = 1.25 1.25/5 = 25 nickels.


5 Quarters/25 nickels.




28. The dosage of a certain medicine for a
child is 2.5 mL for each 3 kg mass of the
child. What is the dose, in millilitres, for a
child with a mass of 16.5 kg?

19.8mL/16.5g

The alien saw my work i have done on my paper and has said, DFKLJSDFPOOPFLERLOLSALSDORLFROFLLOL. I googled it and he said that i am very good at math and that planet earth is a smart planet. The weird alien then went into his ship and left somewhere in the galaxy.

A Ratio In a Ratio Notation, Fraction, Decimal, and Percent Form.
The Chosen RATIO: White to Total 1:22

-Percent: 4.54 Repeating.
How To Create Equivalent Ratios.
A way to create equivalent ratios is the multiplying the parts of the ratio by any number you'll like. A ratio i have chosen is Yellow to Blue (2:4). The equivalent ratio to this is 1:2 because 1:2 x 2 = 2:4 and on and on multiplying by the same number, which will make more equivalent ratios.

2)What is the ratio, ratio notation, and decimal of 2/12?
3)Write the percent form of green to grey. (2:1)

1.What is the money going to be used for?

The coins could be used for anything that is under 100 dollars. For example i could go to a dollar store like Dollarama and buy 100 towels for 100 dollars (without tax, gst, pst).


2.Does it matter how many pennis there are?

I think the pennies dont matter, as long as you have 100 dollars in coins.

The 3 things i know about graphing are..
1.There is a title at the top of the graph to make sure the people you are showing the graph to know what the graph is about.
2.The intrevals on the side indicate on how much or how many one thing has depends on the number.
3.The labels must be on the x axis and the y axis to indicate what the intrevals on the y axis are and the number are the x axis are.
What I know now that would improve my test.
What i know now that would improve my test is that to do a bar graph instead of doing a double line graph.

October 5,2009.
I think the fractioned fours are just like the division fours. They both divide and equal two. I believe the line that seperates the fours in the fraction divide the bottom number by the top number. And the division one, tells for itself.

Darnell's scribe post for September 30.

Question 12:
a)Explain how this graph is misleading.
The graph is misleading because the intrevals on the Y axis go from 0-500 and the highest number in the graph is 200.

b)Based on the graph,what can you conclude about the outcome of the voting?
What i can conclude about the graph is Candidate B barely won because he didnt reach near 500.

c)Does the data support the claim made by the title? If not, reword it to correct the misinformation.
The title didn't match the graph because it says, "Vote is a three-way split" and the 3 canadidates votes weren't divided evenly. The title should be renamed Vote results for ______.
