RAQUEL'S SCRIBEPOST FOR SURFACE AREA

Yesterday, during math class we did lots of things on learning about surface area. We were reading about surface area. After, we did the reading we talked about the squares. We drew the squares on a Isometric dot paper. We learned how to draw a cube on the Isometric paper. It looked like this..

After, that we had to guess what cubes have. We learned that they have.
- 3 faces showing
- 6 faces in total
- all squares
After that, we learned about
Rectangular Prisms. We drew it also and it looks like..

What we learned is that they have.
-6 sides

After, we did all that we did a foldable. What we did on the foldable is we did this..

After, we did our foldable Mr.Harbeck assigned us our homework which was :
Define:
-face
-vertex
-net
-edge
-rectangular prism

-Draw 3 different rectangular prisms and show the similarities and differences between them

-Complete your Homework book Pg. 48

and
-Find 3 rectangular prisms in your house and..
-Label them

-Draw the top, front and side view of the object
-Make sure each object is different

I'll just show you the Definitions and the 3 different rectangular prisms.
Definitions:
face- flat or curved surface
vertex- point where two faces meet
edge- line segment where two faces meet
net- a two dimensional shape that, when folded encloses a 3-D shape
rectangular prism- a prism bases are congruent rectangular
3 different rectangular prism:

The similarities are..
-They all have 6 sides
-Their all a rectangular prism
-They all have bases that are congruent rectangular

The differences are..
-The dimensions are different
-Different face sizes
-( I don't have a third one, sorry. ) :S
(by the way, dimensions are length, height, and width. )

AND....... THE END

( P.s, the font is just really messed up, I don't know why. )
REMEMBER TO COMMENT AND TELL ME IF I MADE ANY MISTAKES, THAAAAAAANKS. (:

RAQUEL'S SCRIBE FOR PERCENT.

DURING MATH CLASS
So, during math class we corrected the fractions we did for homework. Such as..

We also had to use a 10x10 grid for solving percent problems. such as this:

After that, we did a foldable. To do that we had to get 3 pieces of loose leaf and make each one of them evenly spaced out. When you do that you have to fold it backwards and then you will make your foldable which looks like this. :

(There's to much flaps but it's okay. (: Just imagine there's only 6.)
When your done that, you write what each flap represent. After that, you have to write on the first flap. We had to find the definition of percent and fractional percent. Under that we had to draw out what the percentages ( I think I forgot my foldable at school so, I don't remember the numbers. ) look like on a grid.
The definitions are:

Percent- is a way of expressing a number as a fraction of 100.
Fractional Percent- a percent that includes a portion of a percent.

YES, IT'S LATE WELL.. NOT REALLY BUT, I STILL DID IT. SORRY !! (: ANYWAYS, TELL ME IF I MADE A MISTAKE OR I MISSED SOMETHING, I'LL FIX IT RIGHT AWAY. PC OUT. REMEMBER TO COMMENT.

Raquel's Scribepost for Janurary 4 2010

Text Book Questions
Pg.104 Questions 3-4

a)12cm-144cm
16cm=256cm
144 cm² + 256 cm² = 400 cm²
Square of 400 cm² = 20 cm

b)16 m = 256 m²

30 m = 900 m²

256 m² + 900 m² = 1156 m²
Square of 1156 m² = 34 m

a)7 cm = 49 cm²
6 cm = 36 cm²
49 cm² + 36 cm² = 85 cm²
Square of 85 cm² = 9.2 cm

b)
11 cm = 121 cm²
8 cm = 64 cm²
121 cm² + 64 cm² = 185 cm²
Square of 185 cm² = 13.6 cm

I know it's late but, I still did it. Anyways, COMMENT. (:

Raquel's Scribe Post For Squares

Okay, so in math class on November 20 2009, we corrected the pages we did for homework in the Math Links Homework Book. The pages were 24 & 25. We corrected it by doing factor trees.

So, all we did was do factor trees for each question to show our work. We also wanted to find the prime number so we can determine if it is a perfect square. For example 3 x 2 x 3 x 2. These 4 numbers are prime factors. It is a perfect square because if the prime numbers can go into a number evenly.

After all that, we started working on our FOLDABLES-
So, in class you should of done the labeling already and so, all we did
was we folded the paper in half after that, you fold the sides into the middle which will make 4 sections.
So, it will look like this.

The next thing we did was that we opened the part where it says " What I Need To Work On " and we put lines on the top and bottom section. After we have done that all we did was with a ruler we marked 2 cm which should be marked evenly. Then mark each tick 1 - how much ticks you have. After that we put in the 5 perfect squares.
" one= 12, four= 22, nine= 32, sixteen= 42, twenty-five= 52 "

That's it for the foldable. Now for the homework

HOMEWORK-
All we had to do is make a perfect square was 2 tiles, 3 tiles, 4 tiles and 5 tiles.

THE END. THAT'S ALL WE DID ON NOVEMBER 20, 2009 FOR MATH CLASS. ANYWHO, THANKS FOR READING AND COMMENT PLEASE IF YOU DON'T I'LL FIND YOU. (:

How I Stopped an Alien Invation Using Proportion

HOW I STOPPED AN ALIEN INVASION USING PROPORTION
As I was doing my proportion homework I heard a huge sound coming from my yard. I looked outside looking on what it was. It was a UFO. I flash of light came down and an alien appeared. I went outside asking what the alien wanted. The alien said " I'm going to take over your so called planet earth until, you tell me what proportion means and giving me 3 equations to know how to use it. " So, after he said that I said " Oh, well that's easy a proportion is a relationship that two rates or ratios are equal." Then I told him 3 equations.

3. a) Write a proportion based on the following scenario:
Three balls cost $1.25. What is the cost of 12 balls?
b) Solve the proportion.

11. A small gear turns 18 times in the same time that a large gear turns 4 times. How many times will the large gear turn if the small gear turns 54 times? Draw a diagram to help set up a proportion and solve the problem.

14. Last night 30 cm of snow fell in 6h. If it continues snowing at the same rate, how long will it take for 45 cm of snow to fall?

After I told him what proportion means the alien said " Congratulations you just saved your planet earth." So he went under the UFO and a flash of light came out and the alien was gone. They went to the other part of the earth and asked someone else. But then, the person didn't know and so we all died cause the aliens took over.
THE END. (:

Raquel's Scribe

Proportion: Proportion means a relationship that says that two ratios or two rates are equal.
An example I will use is this:
a) Write a proportion based on the following scenario:
Three balls cost $1.25. What is the cost of 12 balls?
b) Solve the proportion.

To solve this question you can use a ratio table or a fraction. But I'll just show you the ratio table. (:

You also need to put it in a sentence so..
Five dollars for 12 balls.

THE END. Hope you guys actually understood it. Sorry if I didn't really help. I tried though. (:
THANKS FOR READING, AND COMMENT PLEASE ( If I missed anything. ) I'LL FIX IT LIKE SOON. (:

%%%%%'s Rate Growing Post

Ratio: Compares 2 quantities that are measured in the same units.
Rate: Compares 2 quantities that are measured in different units.

Whats The Difference Between Ratio and Rate?
The difference between ratio and rate is that ..
Ratio compares things in the same unit and rates compare things in different units.

Raquel's Bob & Ratio

PART TO PART RATIO:
Green:Blue 6:1
Blue:Red 1:10
Yellow:Blue 6:1

PART TO WHOLE RATIO:
Red:Total 10:23
Blue:Total1:23

3 PART RATIO:
Green:Blue:Yellow 6:1:6
Total:Letters:Green 23:7:6

Here is the ratio that I picked to show a ratio notation, fraction, decimal, percent. Blue:Red. Here is how I did it:
Ratio Notation: 1:10
Fraction:1/10
Decimal: 0.10
Percent:10%
I got the fraction by adding up the numbers of blue m&m's and red m&m's. I got the decimal by dividing the fraction and I got the percent by multiplying the decimal by 100.

Making An Equivalent Ratios
blue to red, 1:10 2:20 3:30 4:40 5:50. These are all equivalent fractions. When your trying to make an equivalent fraction you have to know that if you do something to one side you do it to the other. So, 1:10 is equivalent to 2:20 because you multiplied 1 by 2 and so what you do on one side you do it on the other by doing that 10 times 2 equals 20. So the ratio is 2:20.

3 QUESTIONS
1: If you make a ratio of blue:total. What would be the fraction decimal and the percentage be and How did you do it?
2: What would the equivalent ratio look like if it was 6:1?
3: What if there was 3 more blue then red? What would the fraction decimal and percentage look like?

THANKS FOR READING
(P.s The ratios might be wrong cause I may have miss counted it. )
Anyways. Byeeeeeeeeeee.
:D

PART 2

What were the mistakes you made on your test. Show examples of answers that were wrong. What was your mistake. How will you remember what to do in future tests?

- Some of the mistakes I did on my test was that I didn't read the question carefully. I forgot to simplify my work cause I forgot to. I also didn't show my work so that's why I did bad on my test. I also need to write on my paper on showing how I got the answer. The next time I do a test, I will study more harder so that I know what to do. I will also try my hardest to read the question carefully and show how I did it using ratio tables etc.

RE-WRITE 2 QUESTIONS THAT GAVE YOU DIFFICULTY WITH DIFFERENT NUMBERS.

-
Four students are running for student council president. Of 60 students polled, 30 chose Mike, 6 chose Patricia, 12 chose Brian, and the rest chose Karen. What is the ratio of votes for girls to votes for boys in the student council election? Express the ratio in lowest terms.

-
A picture frame with a width to length ratio of 4:6. If the width of the photo is 8 cm, the length of the photo is

Sorry I did bad on my test, I'll do better on Monday ! (:

Raquel's Scribepost for October 12, 2009

For October 9 2009's math class we worked in groups to make questions for this glass full of American money worth a hundred dollars. We had to answer 2 of the questions we made about this jar of American money. Here it is.

Question #1 : How much money is in the jar?
There is a hundred dollars in the jar.

Question #2 : Would the jar look the same if it was converted into Canadian money?
No, the jar wouldn't look the same because the jar will be filled with pennies, dimes, nickels, quarters loonies and toonies. Which is different cause for making loonies and toonies in America it would be paper.

THANKS FOR READING MY SCRIBEPOST, HOPE YOU ENJOYED IT.

3 Things I Know About Graphing:

What these graphs are used for:

Bar Graph: Are best for comparing data across categories.
Line Graph: Are best for showing changes in data over time.
Circle Graph: Are best for comparing categories in percent.

Pictograph: Are best for comparing data that can be easily counted and representing data.

Misrepresenting Data:
1: Distorting the scale

You are distorting the scale because there is a break in the y axis.

2: Distorting the Visuals:

You are distorting the visuals by making the smaller data bigger than the other data which, makes the data look like it is more important than the others.

3: Distorting the Size of the Bars

You are distorting the size of the bars because in graph B You are making it look fatter than it usually is.

The Intervals:
The interval has to be the same distance or the graph will be distorted. The interval is the space or distance between things.

What I know that would improve my test:
I would put a tally chart with my t-chart. I would also talk about the trends in my paragraphs.

Question #7
The table shows the heights of two friends
measured over time.

a) Use a double bar graph and a double line graph to display the data.

b) How are the trends for Andrea and Lewis similar? How are they different?
Answer: The trends are the same in the the heights cause they both are increasing from ages 2 to 14. The trends are different by Andrea stopping at the age of 14 and Lewis is still growing at the age of 14.

c) Would two circle graphs be effective for displaying the data? Explain why or why not.
Answer: No, because the heights aren't a part of a whole so the circle graph would not be a good idea to use.
