It would have less of each coin because Canada has Loonies and Toonies compared to Americans that have bills as dollars. So it would look a lot less if it was all Canadian.

Coin Math part 2

If you started dropping coins into the jar on January 1 , 2010, what day would you finish filling up the jar?

If the jar was filled with all american coins, it would have 1280 coins in it. This filled up 3 quarters of the jar. If you find how much coins can fit in the whole jar it will make this problem easier. So what you do is find how much 1280 divided by 3 multiplied by 4 is.
This gives you about 1707.

So if there is 1707 coins in there jar it would take me approximately 4.79 years to fill the whole jar by putting one coin in it each day. So it would take be around 4 years, so what I'm thinking that it is 79 percent of the year, and that would be around 284 days, I estimate 4 years and 284 days,
That would be October 11, 2014.

How much of the jar is filled with Canadian coins ?

The jar has 370 coins in it. We have found out that 3/4 of the jar is 1280 , so if you divide that by 4 you get 320 , so now we know its more than 1/4 of the jar. So I'm guessing its around 27-30 percent of the whole jar.

Would the jar weigh the same if there was $100 Canadian coins?

No, because Canadian coins have loonies and toonies, and American coins don't. So with the loonies and toonies in the jar, that would probably most likely add on more weight because they are bigger than quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies.

If you were able to seperate the coins into groups. Which group would have the most coins or highest value?

First I would seperate the coins into groups like, quarters, nickles, dimes, and pennies. I think that the pennies would have more coins because it has less value and doesnt take up as much space and I think that the quarters have the most value because the value of the quarter is more than the rest of the coins in the jar.

With American coins the jar is almost filled up to the top. To me that looks like about 75% or 3/4 of the jar filled. So with Canadian money it would be around 35% or 1/4 of the jar filled. I'm not sure, i'm just guessing, its an estimate.

Could you fill the jar with $100 American and $100 Canadian coins? Why?

No, I think that the coins were over flow or spill over. Because from the question above, by adding the information together - 75% + 35% = 110% That would mean that the jar would over flow because of that 10%. So you can't fill Canadian coins and American coins all in that one jar.

On Friday we talked about this image, Mr.H gave us a task to make up questions about how much money is in the jar. Second: we would share our quetions to the whole class in our group. then we would see if that quetion would help us out or if it had nothing to do with math. then he told us that there was $100 American coins in the jar. Then we made more quetions and Mr.H origanised the quetions to red to being the first quetions, then black to being just questons and nothing to do with math, then blue was for the second questions, then purple for the last. then Mr.H gave us homework to answer a purple question and any other but black.

How much of the jar is filled with Canadian coins?
The jar is filled 35.5% by the Canadian coins because the amount of coins the jar could hold is 1040 and 1% of 1040 is 10.4, and 10% of 1040 is 104, so 30% is 312, if I add 1%, I would get 322.4 coins and 31% if I repeat what I did 2 more times I would get 343.2 coins and 33%, again I would repeat what I did twice so I would get 364 coins and 35% now if I got half of 1% it would be 5.2 coins and 0.5% if I add that to what I have now it would be 369.2 and 35.5%. I know that it's not 370 but it would take a lot of decimal percent so I just rounded it off.


Could you fill the jar with $ 100 American and $ 100 Canadian? Why?
No you couldn't because American coins take up 75% of the jar and Canadian coins take up 35.5% of the jar. 75%+35.5%=110.5% and that is more than 100%.

Okay, so we know that there are 780 American coins and we estimated it to take up 3/4 of the jar or 75% of it. Now if we converted those American coins into Canadian, there would only be 370 of them. 370 in less the half of 780 so it's probably less than 1/4 if the jar. So it's probably 1/8 of it. Or 35%.

Could you fill the jar with $100 American and $100 Canadian? Why ?
No because 75% amd 35% is already over a hundred.

1. If you share $100 with 10 people, how much does everyone get?
If you share $100 with 10 people, each one would get $10. Because 100÷10 is 10. Since there are 10 people, they each get $10.


2. What is the total of all coins in Canadian Currency?
$100 USD would be $75 CND because the difference between the US Dollars and Canadian Dollars is CND is $25 lower than USD. Sometimes the differences between them changes because of the rate.

On October 9 we worked in groups to make up questions about a jar that is full of American coins that values $100. We have to make a scribe of 2 questions. One PURPLE question and one RED or BLUE.





QUESTION 1: Would the jar look the same if it were converted to Canadian money?
My answer is no. It would not look the same. It would not look the same because Americans use paper money unlike Canadians which we use coins "Loonies and Toonies". The jar would probably look less full because the loonies
and toonies would replace all the other
coins



QUESTION 2: How full is the jar?
By the looks of it, the jar looks 3/4 full. Because if you divide it in a half then divide those halves in half it would turn into quarters. The coins only take up 3 quarters of the jar. (Sorry if it wasn't very mathematical)

It includes the 50 cent coin which doesn't
really count. :)

QUESTION 1: How much of the jar is filled with Canadian coins?
I know that there are 370 coins worth of coins in the jar. The amount of American coins is 780. The amount of Canadian coins are 370 coins. 370 is about half of the 780 coins. So I just divided the 75 into 2 which is 37.5 and that gives me my answer. The Canadian coins occupy about 37.5% of the jar.



QUESTION 2: Could you fill the jar with $100 American and $100 Canadian?
No you can not. To get this answer I first used the information I knew. Which was the amount of American coins were 780 and the percentage that the American coins filled the jar was 75 percent. Then I had to figure out the percentage of the Canadian money. The amount of coins of Canadian coins were 370. So I used a ratio chart and found the percentage of it. The percentage of the Canadian coins were 48%. So I added botht the percentages together. It equalled 123%. Then 23% would be left over on top of the jar. So the jar can not hold the American and Canadian coins.

With the American Coins it occupied around 75% of the jar ( also 3/4 ) and we used 18 rolls of coins . With Canadian Coins we used approxiemtly half of that so 9 rolls of coins so it would occupy around 20-40 % ( 1/4 not exact ) .

2.Could you fill the jar with 100$ american and 100$ canadian ?

Using the information that was gathered i would conclude that no you can't fill the jar using 100$ american and canadian.

I used a ratio table to find out how much of the jar would 370 Canadian coins would take up. I found out that 370 coins would take up about 35% of the jar.

I think you might be able to fill up the jar with American coins because you only need 1040 coins to fill it all the way up and you can fill up lots of it with pennies. I also think you can fill it up with Canadian coins too because of the pennies.
